Features Aion

Features

Flight

A distinctive feature that this game will have is the concept of flying. This will be a limited [active skill], during which the character will be able to perform various exclusive skills against ground and air players. It will also be used to find higher elevation areas or materials that are not accessible through walking. Initially when you receive the power of the Daeva at level 10 you'll receive a flight indicator with a 1 minute timer. Later the game will come out with items to upgrade your flight time.

Game Engine

The game uses a heavily modified version of Crytek's CryEngine. This same engine was used in the development of the first person shooter Far Cry.

Visuals

The game will be inspired by multiple themes and has a distinctly unique atmosphere which can be described as ethereal or dream-like. Environments depicted in screenshots and videos display soft, vibrant colours and light bloom, for the Elyos, and dark and snowy describing a chilled northern atmosphere for the Asmodians. Aion won GameAmp's 2006 E3 MMORPG "Best Graphics" Award. [12]

Character Customization

At first glance the character creation system appears to be roughly similar to that of other mmo's such as World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Ultima Online, etc, but upon further examination the character customization found in Aion is much more extensive. There are preset appearances that can be used if a player does not wish to fully customize their character, but for those that do, the character creation/customization system in Aion offers the ability to choose from a considerable variety of options.

Players will be able to mold their character in almost any way they choose, easily manipulating nearly every aspect of their physical appearance, from their height to their face ot their body type and size, ranging anywhere from petite to tall and from skinny to large and anything in-between. Choosing from dozens of different options, hairstyles and colors, the shape of avatar's face, it's skin color and voice can all be modified to the player's liking. It will be possible to alter eye colors, add tattoos to the character's face and body, and even select the avatar's makeup or facial hair type, when applicable. With a multitude of sliders, individual aspects of a character's facial features can also be altered down to the most minute detail, such as the shape of the face, nose, chin, distance between the eyes and many other choices, will be adjustable, along with ear, head, chest, shoulder, waist, hip and leg sliders. The system is similar to that seen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but mostly closely resembles that of another NCsoft product well-known in the industry for its' character creation system, City of Heroes. The customization system is so dynamic and in-depth that players have created avatars that look extremely similar to the players themselves.

The game will also feature a system that will allow a player to reuse the graphic of the weapon or armor that they like and craft it with the stats of another item. This adds another layer of customization and strategy and allow players to control the look of their avatar without sacrificing the better stats of an item that they find visually unappealing.[13] With this system you can put some colors on some of your armors.

Music

Most of the music was created by Ryo Kunihiko. A sample of the soundtrack could have been heard in the background by visiting the official Korean site but is now no longer available. However, the European Aion site offers a small list of some of the music available to listen to in their music section here

Skill Chains

Depending on the weapon you use, you'll have access to its skill chains. Skills can be purchased from Markus (name may change) and must correspond to its appropriate slot in the chain. The length of the skill chain can not be modified.

PvP System

The end game of Aion will revolve around battles within the Abyss (PvP Zone). Within the Abyss are castles where large scale battles will take place. The game currently does not allow factions to fight within their own. Guilds in control of a castle are entitled to funding from taxes and players within the faction get specials from NPCs.[14][15]

The participation in PvP is rewarded with PvP "Points". The game ranks you as you win battles against fellow players. At certain ranks your wings will change in appearance to show your status. Also certain items can be purchased with these points like high end armors and weapons.

Raids

Raids will consist of up to 9 parties with up to 6 players per party (54 players).
